Anaconda MMA Master Class Video

An Anaconda choke/strangle is an arm triangle from the front headlock position.

It is applied by threading you arm under your opponent’s neck and through the armpit. You then grab the biceps of your other arm. The opponent is then pinned onto his trapped shoulder so as to cause an interruption to the blood flow.

The anaconda can also be accomplished by rolling the opponent over the untrapped shoulder, (known as a gator roll) and use the momentum to turn the opponent onto his or her trapped shoulder. It may be neccessary to do this, if for example, there is a wall in the way blocking you from turning onto the trapped shoulder.

The finishing position is laying on your side, with you knees close to your chest in order to apply maximum pressure on your opponents neck.

The defence against the anaconda is to prevent you opponent curling his knees into his chest - push them away with you hands and then twist from you side onto your knees.
