Brazilian Jiu Jitsu BJJ

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an essential part of our style of MMA Training

Sensei Ibush has undergone a considerable amount of BBJ training with some of the best practitioners of the art in the UK.

He has seamlessly adapted these BJJ techniques into his own unique training methods and combined them with his extensive knowledge of Jiu Jitsu, karate, Muay Thai and Judo. The result is an phenomenally effective combat style for sports MMA fighting and street self defence.

The overall fighting strategy of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is designed to equip a physically smaller or weaker individual with an effective method of defending against a larger and stronger attacker. When applying BJJ techniques, leverage is paramount, as leverage is the secret to the amplification and most efficient use of force. BJJ also has the most developed methods of fighting while on one's back, a position weaker fighters will often find themselves when attacked.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been around for 80 or so years. The Gracie family, with their emphasis on fighting techniques, are predominately responsible for the development of modern BJJ.

There are three basic categories of BJJ

  • Self defence against armed and unarmed assailants
  • Free fighting for competition - MMA
  • Sport grappling - submission without striking

Even the rules of sport grappling competitions make students aware of what works on the street. For example, during competition, more points are awarded for gaining submissions with the possibility of effective striking. As a result, students naturally learn the best strategy for real life self defence.
