Getting
started

No previous experience or high level of fitness is needed. Start comfortably and build skills at your own pace.

How do I start training?

Contact the club to book your first adult class, check the correct session and arrive five to ten minutes early so you can meet the instructor and get ready.

Do I need martial-arts experience?

No. Complete beginners are welcome. Coaching is adjusted to your current ability, while experienced students can continue developing their technique and conditioning.

Do I need to be fit before I start?

No. Students begin at different fitness levels. Training can help you progressively improve stamina, strength, mobility, coordination and confidence without needing to “get fit first”.

What happens in a first adult class?

You will meet the instructor, warm up and join structured technique and fitness work at a suitable level. Your first adult class is free, so you can experience the club before deciding.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear a T-shirt with shorts to the knee or comfortable training bottoms. Bring water, remove or securely cover jewellery, and tie back long hair. Clean, lightweight sports clothing is ideal.

Do I need to buy equipment first?

No specialist uniform is required for your first class. Start in suitable sports clothing and ask the instructor which gloves, wraps or other equipment will be useful before buying anything.

What does MMA training include?

Classes bring together striking, takedowns, grappling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, fitness and practical self-defence. Sessions develop technique, control and decision-making as well as physical conditioning.

How often should I train?

Twice a week is recommended for steady technical progress and improving fitness. Training once a week is also worthwhile when that is what your schedule allows.

Adults, children & private coaching

Classes
& ages

Choose regular club training or focused private tuition, with sessions suitable for complete beginners and experienced students.

When are adult classes?

Adult classes are for students aged 16 and over. They run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at the Barnet club.

When are children's classes?

Children aged 7 to 15 train every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:15pm to 7:15pm. See the kids MMA page for full details.

Are children's classes beginner friendly?

Yes. Children can start without previous martial-arts experience. Instruction is structured, supervised and adapted to their age, experience and ability.

Will martial arts encourage my child to fight?

The aim is controlled, responsible training—not aggression. Children learn fitness, coordination, confidence, discipline, respect and practical skills through age-appropriate drills and supervised partner work.

Can parents watch a children's class?

Please ask the club before attending because viewing arrangements can depend on the session and venue. Parents remain responsible immediately before class and must collect children promptly when it ends.

Can women train at the club?

Yes. Women and men are equally welcome. Coaching focuses on technique, leverage, fitness and practical skills rather than relying on size or strength. Dedicated women's MMA information is also available.

Do you offer one-to-one coaching?

Yes. One-to-one tuition can focus on MMA, BJJ, boxing skills, fitness or self-defence and is tailored to your experience and goals.

Can friends or colleagues train privately together?

Yes. Private small-group training is available for groups of three or more, with the content and schedule arranged around the group.

Prices, safety & practical details

Train
prepared

Clear expectations help everyone train safely, comfortably and consistently.

How much do adult classes cost?

The first adult class is free. Adult training is £15 per drop-in class or £70 per month for regular training. Check the current prices and times before booking.

How much do children's classes cost?

Children's training costs £5 per week and includes the available Monday, Wednesday and Friday sessions.

Is hard sparring compulsory for beginners?

No hard sparring is used as a beginner introduction. Techniques, partner drills and contact are introduced progressively and with control. Tell the instructor if you are new or have any concerns.

Will I get hurt?

MMA is a contact sport, so risk cannot be removed completely. Training is controlled and safety is emphasised, but occasional bruising, strains or other injuries can occur. Read the training terms and risks before taking part.

What if I have an injury or medical condition?

Tell the instructor before training about any illness, injury, medication or condition that exercise could aggravate. Seek medical advice before intense exercise when you are unsure whether training is suitable.

What hygiene rules should I follow?

Arrive in clean training clothes, bring water, keep long hair tied back and remove jewellery where possible. Do not train when you have a contagious illness or skin condition; contact the club if you are unsure.

Where does the club train?

Priory Grove Scout Hut, off Westcombe Drive, Barnet EN5 2BE. Use the contact page for the map and to ask about access or parking before you travel.

What happens on bank holidays?

The club is normally closed on bank-holiday Mondays. Check with the instructor for any timetable change before travelling.

How do monthly payments and cancellations work?

Monthly membership is paid in advance by Direct Debit. Monthly payments are non-refundable and cancellation requires 30 days' notice by email. See the training terms for full details.
